Wheelchairs: a real help for the immobile

March 30th, 2009

A wheelchair is a device used by people with mobility difficulties to move from one point to another.

There are various types of wheelchairs. They come in different sizes and types and some can be custom built to suit the user. Wheelchairs are classified in categories according to the needs and the features of the wheelchair. They are classified as general wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs or power chairs and sports wheelchairs.

Manual wheelchairs require the user or an attendant to control the movement. Some manual wheelchairs are foldable so they are easily transportable.

While selecting for the right kind of wheelchairs, one must always take into account the weight limit of the wheelchair and the user’s needs. There are many different styles of manual wheelchairs and they come in many fashionable colours, but they should all help to enhance the sitting posture, and have comfortable cushions to stop pressure sores.

One must not choose a wheelchair without proper research. The user’s physical ability and other daily activities must be considered before purchasing a wheelchair.
